Week 5 – 2009

BOT:

Aloha Ahi Ahi UFOhana!

Hard to believe but we’re already down a month in 2009! Is it just me or is time moving quicker this year? Seems like we’re already in Spring with a dreaded drought looming on the horizon. At least I understand some rain is due this week, better a little than non at all I guess?

With half the week gone, we’re staring down another joyful Friday.

Btw Carey, that lemonade was ono onolicious! Mahalo Carey and Uncle Ken for sharing their Mele with us last week. Especially to Uncle Ken for his ‘special’ kind of humor with us. We promise Uncle, we’ll do better in our Hawaiian!

Speaking of Hawaiian, please do post a message to Brudda Liko, here on our blog, if you’re interested in his Hawaiian Language class.

I hear that we still have some Pilots out there that’s still a little under the weather out there. Please do take care, and we all send you our Aloha! Malama Pono.

Ok, so here are some photos from this past action packed  Kanikapila.

And as for this week’s Food Theme:

‘Food Fit for a Queen’ to honor on February 6, 1952, Elizabeth becomes queen . . . on this day in 1952, after a long illness, King George VI of Great Britain and Northern Ireland dies in his sleep at the royal estate at Sandri and his Daughter succeeds to the throne.

Aloha beloved Friend:

I just received these links to some amazing footage of our humpback whales behavior on Inauguration Day. The ceremony and filming of the whales took place at City of Refuge, also known as Ho'nau nau State Park in South Kona.

~Just minutes before a traditional Hawaiian blessing to honor Barak Obama's Inauguration, a pod of joyful whales began gathering by the temple where the event was taking place. People at the gathering who have lived on the Big Island their whole lives, have never seen anything like what took place on this special day. This happy pod of whales began with 3 white belly breaches, followed by spyhopping, slapping their fins and tails and a new behavior we have never seen before that we nicknamed the full body slap... for a full 30 minutes!

The voice you will hear in the background is Haleaka Iolani Pule Dooley, known locally as "Aunty Aka" and you can hear the excitement in her voice as the whales celebrate wildly in front of her and those gathering for the special blessing~

This link shows our whales again but with more footage of the Hawaii'an ceremony itself.
