Week 39 – 092809: Just Press Solos
BOT:
Aloha Ahi Ahi UFOhana!
I hope you all had a great weekend, inspite of the past heat wave. But now the cool weather has arrived.
I know of 8 Hula wahines in particular that had a most eventful and fulfilling weekend. I’m speaking of Kumu Shawna’s first Uniki Class. In fact from, the 8 that graduated to Olapa (or similar) status, we have also one new Kumu, our own Linda Low! How fantastic is that???? I wish I had photos to share but believe me. She was glowing when they announced it at the ceremony. Joy fell from everyone’s eyes and pride swelled in our hearts. Maika’i Linda and we wish you a wonderful journey on your new path.
In the meantime, Brudda Bu and Amy continue on their Trek in France, Steve-O’s away to South America for 5 weeks. Joe’s celebrated his birthday this past weekend at the NoName. Linda Wallace, KimoB and I bade a fellow Ukulele player a final Aloha Oe, Sandy’s in Hawaii singing for his Sister for the first time in years at a 1st Birthday Party and we had a small away team sing at Bogie’s in his absence.
Yes it was such an eventful past weekend, I’m thinking I’d keep it simple for this week’s Solo we’ll do “Just Press” i.e. Solo-ist’s Choice and for Food theme we’ll do JBHF (JustBringHealthFood). Again, do post your incoming rations on the blog. Mahalo for all that do and Mahalo for all the generous donations in the ‘Yellow Box’!
Btw, as an advanced warning:
Ukulele Night for Friday October 16th is being moved to the following day, Saturday the 17th. Got that? October 16th, Friday night has been moved to October 17th Saturday Night. Once Again . . .
Friday Oct 16th Uke Night has been moved to Saturday Oct 17th Uke night.
I’m thinking we can start at 6:30PM that night instead of 7:30PM, just to get things going sooner. Again, this is only for Oct 16.
Reason for the change is that on October 16th is that some of us will be playing at the following benefit:
I encourage you all to attend as it’s not only for a great cause, but also for a good Friend of the UFOhana, David McGuire. David has dedicated his life to keeping our Oceans healthy and well for future generations. Truly a Steward of Earth’s Oceans. As mentioned early, David has as ask members of the UFOhana to provide entertainment for the event. But please do come by and lend us your ‘Strums’ if you happen to bring your Ukulele along. In fact, we may have a special guest show up:
I understand that Keoki Kahumanu might be joining our Kanikapila for both October 16th at the Sharktober Fest AND on October 17th (at Hangar 1585)! Read on for more details on Keoki:
Keoki will be holding Group Ukulele Lessons October 17th :
