Week 40 – 10.05.09: L-u-u-v Song Solos

BOT:

Aloha UFOhana!

Sorry for being late again, another busy week of work and working after work.

The weekend beckons to us, with the promise of another Ukulele Festival, but this one in our neighbor hood! How cool huh? Nice to see that the public is interest in the little jumping flea is still strong.

About last week’s Just Press Solos . . . that was really cool! Nice to have Sierra and Dad doing a spot for us again. It’s obvious that talent runs in the family. Best of luck to Sierra with her Wrestling endeavor. Also, we bid a fond Aloha to our special guest Aka. Mahalo for all the great Aloha you share with us Aka and to Susie for introducing Aka to the UFOhana!

For this week’s Solos Theme I’m thinking we’re going with “L-u-u-u-v Songs” (after dark?) and I figure we should do a food theme of “Foods of Luv” (Heart food?).

Again no forget that the October 16th Uke Night has been moved to October 17th. Keoki will be joining our Kanikapila the night of the 17th as well. No forget to sign up for his Classes now!

Here’s the info on the classes that’ll be held here at Hangar 1585:

2-3:30 Ukulele Workshop - $25

Class will start from the beginning levels of strumming and chord fingering to intermediate rythms chord progressions then finally with some of our favorite island songs. Ask about your favorite Hawaiian songs, history, playing style, etc.  Bring your "He mele aloha" song books too. We may even jam to some of your requests!?!

4:00 - 4:30 Private Lesson in Slack Key or Ukulele

5:00 - 5:30 Private Lesson in Slack Key or Ukulele

6:00 - 6:30 Private Lesson in Slack Key or Ukulele – RSVP’d by Sylvie Simmons

(cost is $45)

7:00 Kanikapilla

Kahumoku in Hawaiian means “Priest of the Island.” It must be in my blood, as it has always been my passion to farm, hunt and care for the ‘aina, or land. Music has also been an important part of the Kahumoku family, passed on to me by my grandparents, parents, uncles, aunties, and cousins. I’ve always been thankful for these gifts, but never so thankful as I am today. As the ‘aina has nourished my ‘ohana with “ono grindz” and “good fun,” music has nourished my soul and supported our family.

My pleasure on the cookies, brudda. Salamat to you and the Ohana for making Jerry feel so welcome. I told him that if he and I show up again at the same time, we'll have to do a duet!

As it turns out we won't be coming. Jetlag is making it so we are sleepy by 7pm. Thought it would be over by now. We'll be there next Saturday for sure.
