Week 41 – 10.12.09: Mano E’ Mano!
BOT:
Aloha Ahi Ahi UFOhana!
Trying to get this one in early, another busy week.
Remember that we’ve moved Uke Night from Friday to this Saturday.
Once again, Uke Night will be on Saturday the 17th at 6:30PM.
Remember that the 16th we’ll be at the Sharktoberfest. Come one! Come all! Details at www.aquariumofthebay.org
Keoki will be joining our Kanikapila the night of the 17th as well. No forget to sign up for his Classes now! I think he has one more Private Class open at 4pm and off course there is the Ukulele Workshop.
Here’s the info on the classes that’ll be held here at Hangar 1585:
2-3:30 Ukulele Workshop - $25
Class will start from the beginning levels of strumming and chord fingering to intermediate rythms chord progressions then finally with some of our favorite island songs. Ask about your favorite Hawaiian songs, history, playing style, etc. Bring your "He mele aloha" song books too. We may even jam to some of your requests!?!
4:00 - 4:30 Private Lesson in Slack Key or Ukulele
5:00 - 5:30 Private Lesson in Slack Key or Ukulele
6:00 - 6:30 Private Lesson in Slack Key or Ukulele – RSVP’d by Sylvie Simmons
(cost is $45)
7:00 Kanikapilla
Kahumoku in Hawaiian means “Priest of the Island.” It must be in my blood, as it has always been my passion to farm, hunt and care for the ‘aina, or land. Music has also been an important part of the Kahumoku family, passed on to me by my grandparents, parents, uncles, aunties, and cousins. I’ve always been thankful for these gifts, but never so thankful as I am today. As the ‘aina has nourished my ‘ohana with “ono grindz” and “good fun,” music has nourished my soul and supported our family.
Btw, I’m thinking we’ll forgo Solo night this Saturday and just Kanikapila with Keoki. But of course the Blue Square is open for anyone who would like to just whip one out!
Ok, public announcements aside. Mahalo Nui Loa for the great Luuuv Solos (and Kaukau) this past Friday. But like Rick said, “Hey, Where all da girls???” Though half the Uke Babes were there, Susan, Barbara, Mary and Laurette were there, we did miss the rest of the Hula Dancers.
A Big Komomai to Jerry Tommy’s Brudda, aka, 8 of 12, see below (he’s the one singing with Sandy). Who assimilated with the UkeBorg hive just fine! Hope to see more of Jerry in the near future. Mahalo Tom for sharing your Kuya with us.
The rains are coming, so batten down da, da’kines. Hopefully, the County will remember to turn on the pumps at the flood stations this year and we won’t be up to our Popos in rain water. I know we need that water, but it’d be nice if didn’t happen all at once . . . anybody know a good Pole House contractor?
Btw, I understand we’ll be celebrating some Birthday’s this Saturday as well? Sylvie? Lucas” Anyone else?????
So here are the ‘memories’ from Friday Past. Check out Kirsten’s cool Aloha Shirt!
Some of the gallery and Max’s Aunty Susan doing some advertising for Keoki’s Hawaii Workshop. Good Marketing!
Some of our Senior UFO Pilots in Solo Flight. Note the Cabaret lighting. Bolos really getting down on his solo.
Jerry and Sandy doing one together. Barbara and Tuckers ‘first’ one on the Blue Square. Job well done!
I think the Art Works getting better and better every week, just like the solos! 5 Strings coming soon Rick!
Here are some images from the Napa Uke Festival. Brudda Mike D’Silva fish uke is still up for grabs!
Scans of UFOhana Away Team members. Check out the 2 Cute Ukulele Ladies!
Heeeeeey! Isn’t that Faith Ako and Kathy Quain???? Then there’s ‘THE DOMINATOR!” and Ralph Shaw.
Good size crowd just soaking in the sun and fabulous Uke Music!
Some more of the cool ukes and Kimo Hussey.
Victoria Vox, James Hill, Andy Andrews and a guest appearance of Ralph Jackson (Michael’s Long lost Brudda)?
So das’ it for now. Gotta get to bed early for the ton’o meetings tomorrow.
